A pangolin, its body covered in overlapping scales, slowly makes its way across white paper. Each overlapping scale meticulously depicts texture and three-dimensionality using only the shades of sumi ink. On its back, a dark, sunken hollow opens, where fungi like mushrooms and corals, and quietly sprouting plants, breathe. The pangolin, an animal groundlessly blamed as the cause of infectious diseases, is depicted in this work as quietly walking through the aftermath of the catastrophe directed at it, nurturing new life within its scales. This piece resonates with the bat mobile (a scene of decomposition transforming death into life) placed in the final room of the exhibition, reflecting the consistent perspective of the two artists that new life already resides within chaos.
