Raoul Dufy is a painter who established his own light and decorative style based on Fauvism, producing "paintings that evoke a sense of happiness." He was unique in 20th century French art in that he pursued beauty in color and design without being swept away by avant-garde trends such as Cubism and Surrealism. His influence extended beyond painting to the fields of decorative arts and design, and he is still loved by many people today.
