Raoul Dufy was a painter who established his unique light and decorative style based on Fauvism, creating "paintings with a sense of happiness." In 20th-century French art, he was unique in that he did not follow avant-garde trends such as Cubism and Surrealism, but instead pursued the beauty of color and design. His influence extended not only to painting but also to decorative arts and design, and he is still loved by many today.

1877 Born and raised in Le Havre, France, and attended art school.

1900 Moved to Paris and became interested in Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, beginning to interact with artists.

Co-produced works with Albert Marquet.

1905 Encountered Matisse's "Luxe, Calme et Volupté" (painted in 1904) and decided to break away from Impressionism at that point.

1907 Dufy's painting style became clear with "Jeanne among the Flowers," painted with light and bright colors.

1909 His work became lighter, gaining elegance and humor. Created "Bois de Boulogne."

1910 Demonstrated his talent in illustrations for literary works such as Apollinaire's "Orpheus's Furs."

1911 Showed interest in decorative arts and established a textile decoration company with Paul Poiret.

1945 After World War II, his painting reached its final style, characterized by depicting crowds in a painting space with light color gradations. Also left behind watercolor works.

1958 Created his masterpiece "The Red Violin."

1952 Received the Grand International Painting Prize at the 26th Venice Biennale.

1953 Passed away.
