Simon Brault describes his background in knowledge and beauty as follows: "I grew up in my parents' studio, smelling the aroma of terrapin oil, listening to their conversations about painting, looking at their paintings, watching them paint and wash their brushes. There are many painters who influenced me. Nicolas de Stael, Braque, Matisse, and Dufy are the definitive ones. Braque's stoic strictness and Dufy's freedom are wonderful. Bosch, Ucero, Fra Filippo, Holbein, and Durer are painters that I would like to mention first. I often read books on philosophy and science. Time spent immersed in philosophical books is like playing in paradise and brings peace to the mind. Science is an exercise that exercises a different part of the brain. Both are comfortable. But the act of painting is ultimately about expressing myself.
