A painter born in Paris in 1871. He studied under the Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau and is known for his stained-glass-like style, characterized by thick black outlines and deep colors. He was highly acclaimed for his works depicting religious themes and human suffering, and is considered one of the representative painters of 20th-century French art. He passed away in Paris in 1958.
