Collection: Sonia Delaunay

1885 Born in Gradsik, Ukraine , her father Ilyinichna Stern was a lawyer and was adopted by her father Henri Terk, an art collector.  

1903-1904 Studied at Trier Schmidt-Reuter in Karlsruhe , Germany  

1905  He moved to the Academy of the Palette in Paris , where he painted portraits and Fauvist nudes.  

1908 Her first solo exhibition at the Galerie de la Renaissance in Paris featured her colourful works and marked an important step in her career as an artist. 
 

1910 She married the painter Robert Delaunay, and together with her husband she embarked on a path of poetic abstract art . 
 

1913-1935 : He devoted himself to interior design and fashion (cushions, cardigans, dresses, lampshades , etc.) in the same style as his paintings . During this time he also produced book designs, covers and illustrations. In 1925, together with the couturier Jacques Aime, he opened a shop at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs (Art Deco Exhibition ) and also opened the decoration store Case Sonia in Paris. 
 

1930 - The Delaunays joined the group "Abstraction Creation," which advocated non-representational art.  

1935 to 1937 Sonia Delaunay returned to painting, producing wall panels. The Delaunays participated in anti-fascist "street art" projects.  

 
In 1942, her husband Robert Delaunay died. Sonia Delaunay retired to Grasse until the end of the war. 
 

1946 She co-founded and exhibited at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles with the Concrete Art Group . Sonia Delaunay founded the Espace Group . Following the law of simultaneous contrast and with vivid pure colors , they produced prints, mosaics, stained glass, carpets, tapestries, theater sets and costumes, and picture books. Robert and Sonia Delaunay influenced each other , but each of them produced highly original art that brilliantly blossomed their individual personalities and talents.  

1979  Died in Paris
