Born in Arles, Southern France in 1938, he began painting as a boy and his talent was recognized early on.
He held his first solo exhibition in 1956, and his talent was publicly recognized.
He received guidance from many painters, including Picasso.
In 1964, he signed a contract with Galerie de Paris and began to attract attention in Paris as a rising artist.
He held solo exhibitions at famous galleries and museums around the world, such as the prestigious American gallery O’Hare-Finley Gallery, which had branches in New York, Baseball, Los Angeles, and Paris, and the Pompidou Center at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
Vision Nouvelle released Dautreleau's original lithographs, and he subsequently produced many original lithographs. The Van Gogh Foundation acquired his works. He created paintings and murals commissioned by Air France and many golf courses, riding clubs, and yacht harbors, and also created a large mural for the main entrance of Le Rosey Institute (institute durosey, also known as Le Rosey), a prestigious international school in Switzerland.
He paints landscapes, horses, and athletes, capturing fleeting moments and creating a sense of movement that suggests the moment before and the anticipation of the next. Even when painting still landscapes, he conveys a sense of the moment, and the stillness of that instant evokes a mysterious sway and silence as if time-slipping from another dimension.
