Collection: Ambroise & Victor
This is an artist duo from Grenoble, France. They began their work in 2015, following a massive ink painting of an elephant at an art space in the suburbs of Paris. Starting from an animistic view of nature, which holds that all things are endowed with a soul, they perceive a universe residing within each animal, plant, and mineral. They expand this worldview beyond sketches to a diverse range of expressions, including sculptures, tapestries, and installations. Centered on the Chinese ink wash technique (lavis), and meticulously spending 600 hours on a single cow, they quietly bring to life the forms of living beings that cannot be reduced to function or role, while valuing a sensitivity to wonder (émerveillement) through their time-consuming handiwork. The idea that humans are also part of a small ecosystem connected to countless other lives underpins their creative process.
