Ambroise & Victor Bat (Chauve-souris)

A bat suspended from the ceiling is still, with its wings spread wide. This is a kinetic sculpture where the wings open and close with a motor. When closed, it presents a quiet appearance, with only a circular pattern on its back—flowers entwined with vines—visible. But when its wings open like this, a net-like pattern of interwoven mycelia, moss, and fine roots spreads across its entire body, revealing a scene of decomposition where decaying matter transforms into new life. The contrast in texture between the rounded plaster body and the intricately ink-washed wing membranes simultaneously reveals the beast's physicality and the unseen cycle of life occurring within it. Placed in the final exhibition room, "Cycle of Rebirth," this work is the most direct embodiment of Ambroise & Victor's philosophy that the next life is already dormant within chaos. Through a mechanism that shows blooming life when the wings are closed and rebirth from death when they are open, it illustrates this idea.
