The smooth, oval form is crafted from black slip-coated stoneware (grès noir), with the exterior finished in a matte, jet black that seems to absorb light. A window opens onto the interior, revealing a dense jungle-like pattern of intertwining vines, insects, and flower buds, chromographically transferred onto white faience (earthenware). Light emanating from within reveals the pattern, quietly illuminating a condensed microcosm—the stirrings of life—within the closed shell. As with Ambroise & Victor's recent works, which develop sketches from two to three dimensions, the perspective of observing the inner world of living creatures, continuous with their ink wash animal paintings, is consistently maintained here.
