2011 work

This is a painting commissioned by the artist Michel Henry for our company (Galerie Adeka).

Michel Henry is a painter who mainly paints flowers, and together with Buffet and Brasilier, he is one of the leading painters in the 20th century French art world. His paintings give off a sense of happiness, so he is called the painter of happiness in France, and the king of poppies in America, because he paints many poppies. His transparent colors are likened to jewels. Red is said to be the color of ruby, blue is the color of sawaire, green is the color of emerald, and deep brown is the color of topaz. Michel Henry's paintings are collected by the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Swedish royal family, the Principality of Monaco, the Saudi Arabian royal family, and others. Galerie Adeka has been the sole distributor of Michel Henry in Japan since 1995, planning Michel Henry exhibitions in famous department stores and galleries throughout Japan, producing original prints signed by the artist himself, selling painting prints, and managing copyrights.

Work Description

Why did Michel Henry paint this painting? He entrusted the pink color to plums, placing them in the center, and painted a small mountain of cherries in a wine-colored color close to pink on the right. To balance the two, he also painted one cherry on the left. If you look at the background, you can see that this painting is an experimental work. The background is painted in golden yellow, and a light blue line is crossed diagonally on top of that, and a slightly lighter light blue line is added on top of that. And finally, a gray line is crossed vertically and horizontally, not diagonally. Light leaks through the screens of several colors. You can fully enjoy the play of light and color. Why are the fruits pink and wine-colored? In fact, they are the complementary colors of the background. The complementary color of pink is green, but in fact, green is a mixture of yellow and blue. The background is an irregular checkered pattern of yellow (golden yellow) and blue, scattered here and there, and appearing from here and there. The interplay between the colors is carefully calculated and painted, creating a visually pleasing piece that is like a paradise for the eyes.
