Michel Henry is a painter who mainly paints flowers, and together with Buffet and Brasilier, he is one of the leading painters in the 20th century French art world. His paintings give off a sense of happiness, so he is called the painter of happiness in France, and the king of poppies in America, because he paints many poppies. His transparent colors are likened to jewels. Red is said to be the color of ruby, blue is the color of sawaire, green is the color of emerald, and deep brown is the color of topaz. Michel Henry's paintings are collected by the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Swedish royal family, the Principality of Monaco, the Saudi Arabian royal family, and others. Galerie Adeka has been the sole distributor of Michel Henry in Japan since 1995, planning Michel Henry exhibitions in famous department stores and galleries throughout Japan, producing original prints signed by the artist himself, selling painting prints, and managing copyrights.

Work Description

Beyond the Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge over the Seine, you can see the streetscape of the Île de la Cité, including the triangular roof of the Conciergerie . The clouds at dusk are dyed orange, and as they approach the ground they turn rose. A ray of light can be seen shining through the thin clouds. It looks like a triangular mirage. Or maybe it's not a triangular light, but a mirage of some spire. The light is lined up with the two triangular roofs of the Conciergerie, and it looks like a reflection of the triangular roof. The buildings on the opposite bank are also dyed orange. The color of the sky casts a rose-colored light on the Seine. The rose color of the rose bouquets and the plums resonate with the color of the Seine's surface, creating a gentle harmony of colors. A space of soft orange and rose colors spreads throughout, and the Pont Neuf is painted in blue-green in the center. Branches and leaves hang down from the top of the canvas, and are painted in the same blue-green color. Blue is a rose color, and green is a complementary color to orange, so they are complementary to both rose and orange, making the orange and rose colors of the space that spreads across the canvas and the blue-green of the bridge and branches look vivid against each other. The harmony of similar colors and the contrast of complementary colors resonate with each other exquisitely, and it is simply fascinating to continue looking at it.
