He often painted poor people and religious themes, using his own thick outlines and dark colors such as black and brown, but he also painted many sublime religious paintings, giving jewel-like brilliance and light to blue, green, and orange. He would repaint the paintings as many times as he wanted until he was satisfied, so his oil paintings were extremely thick and many colors were layered on top of each other. He also produced many aquatint copperplate prints.

In 1890 , he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Gustave Moreau and was a classmate of Matisse.

In 1903 , at the third Salon d'Automne, he was called a Fauvist along with Matisse, but his work lacked the wildness of Matisse and Marquet at the time.
In 1907 he met the art dealer Anvoyse Vollard.
1910 : First solo exhibition at the Galerie Druet in Paris
1913 : Art dealer Anvoloise Vollard buys all the works in the studio.
In 1917 , he signed a contract with art dealer Anvoyse Vollard and devoted himself to printmaking.
1919 : Oil paintings by Rouault purchased by the French government are exhibited at the Colmar Museum of Fine Arts
1926 : Produced the copperplate print collection "Flowers of Evil"
1927 : Completed the monochrome aquatint copperplate print collection "Miserese", a total of 58 pieces (published in 1948 )
1930 : Created a collection of color aquatint copperplate prints, "Shooting Star Circus," a total of 17 pieces (published in 1938 ); created a collection of color aquatint copperplate prints, "Passion," (published in 1937 )
1938 : Georges Rouault prints exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York
1945 : A retrospective of Rouault is held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
1946 : A joint exhibition by Rouault and Braque is held at the Tate Gallery in London.
Died in Paris in 1958. State funeral at the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
