2003 work

This is a painting commissioned by the artist Michel Henry for our company (Galerie Adeka).

Michel Henry is a painter who mainly paints flowers, and together with Buffet and Brasilier, he is one of the leading painters in the 20th century French art world. His paintings give off a sense of happiness, so he is called the painter of happiness in France, and the king of poppies in America, because he paints many poppies. His transparent colors are likened to jewels. Red is said to be the color of ruby, blue is the color of sawaire, green is the color of emerald, and deep brown is the color of topaz. Michel Henry's paintings are collected by the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Swedish royal family, the Principality of Monaco, the Saudi Arabian royal family, and others. Galerie Adeka has been the sole distributor of Michel Henry in Japan since 1995, planning Michel Henry exhibitions in famous department stores and galleries throughout Japan, producing original prints signed by the artist himself, selling painting prints, and managing copyrights.

[Work description]

Michel Henry studied color under the master of color, Chaplin Midi, at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and he uses a variety of colors freely to create a world of color filled with light. Michel Henry is always conscious of light, and at the same time, he gives a sense of light through color, giving his paintings and the objects he draws a sense of transparency. As a result, his paintings have a deep, jewel-like radiance.

The French brand Christian Dior launched a project to apply the colors of precious stones to fur. It was around 1990 during the bubble economy. The project was entrusted to Jean-Franco Ferré, who was the top designer at Christian Dior at the time (he would later launch his own brand). At the same time, Christian Dior asked Michel Henry to join the development team. This is because the head of Christian Dior knew that Michel Henry could reproduce the sparkle of precious stones on canvas. Michel Henry's red is the sparkle of ruby, blue is the sparkle of sapphire, green is the sparkle of emerald, and yellow and brown are the sparkle of topaz. Michel Henry exudes a mysterious and noble atmosphere with the transparency and depth of precious stones from the paintings and colors he paints.

This painting has a green base. The bamboo screen by the window facing the wilderness is painted green, and the wilderness outside is also painted green. Various lights and colors enter the room from behind the woven bamboo. The color of the woven bamboo also varies from dark green to light green, and light is expressed using several shades of light and dark. The painting gives the impression of the brilliance of emerald.
