Collection: Andre Brasilier
He was one of France's leading postwar painters of the 20th century. Along with fellow Beaux-Arts graduates Michel Henry, Bernard Buffet, Bernard Cathelin, Jean-Pierre Cassignol, Jean Janssens, and Paul Aizpiri, he supported the glory of French painters in the second half of the 20th century. He used beautiful curves and transparent colors to depict the graceful figures of horses and women.
Born in 1929 in Saumur, France to painter parents.
1949 : Entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and studied in the atelier of Maurice Brianchon
1952 Florence Blumenthal Award
1953 Grand Prix of Rome Painting Award
1959 : First lithograph produced at the Mourlot workshop
1961 : Winner of the Charles Morey Prize at the Young Artists Exhibition
1962 : Becomes a member of the Salon d'Automne and the Salon du Tuileries
1969 First solo exhibition in Tokyo
1974 : First visit to Japan, held solo exhibition at Yoshii Gallery (Tokyo)
Held a solo exhibition of lithographs and tapestries at Galerie Vision Nouvelle in Paris.
In 1977 , painter Kaii Higashiyama invited Brasilier to Toshodaiji Temple (Nara) where he was creating a mural.
1980 : The first retrospective of his work from 1950 to 1980 is held at the Château de Chenonceau.
1985 : Designed the stage and costumes for the play "Giblet" (written by Reinaldo Hahn)
1987 : Created a mosaic ( 15 x 3 m) in Vence, Provence.
In 1988 , a retrospective was held at the Picasso Museum in Antibes, southern France.
In 1989, the retrospective exhibition "Homage to André Brasilier" was held in Angers, and he was awarded the Golden Horse Award (Order of Honor of the City of Angers).
2004 : Solo exhibition held at Meinau Castle (Lake Constance, Germany)
2005 : A retrospective was held at the Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia)
2010 : Exhibition held at Château de Chenonceau
