The Beach, an oil painting from 1969 by André Brasilier (b. 1929). This is a quintessential work from the poetic and meditative "Seascape" series that Brasilier pursued throughout the 1960s.

The upper part of the canvas depicts undulating skies in layers of ultramarine and white, with a horizon line stretching below. In the lower part, two figures seated with their backs to the viewer are silhouetted, melting into soft hues of beige and pink. By intentionally omitting facial expressions and outlines of the figures and constructing the scene solely from planes of color and lines, Brasilier embodies his unique artistic language, which oscillates between figuration and abstraction.

The rhythmic brushstrokes of the sky, reminiscent of waves ebbing and flowing, contrast with the quietly seated figures, creating a sense of time that is both serene and somewhat contemplative.
