Artwork Description

"Topaze" is a representative silkscreen print from Victor Vasarely's "Lapidaire" (gemstone) series, in which he explored the interplay of geometric structures and colors.

In this work, a circular-based structure unfolds with subtle transformations, creating exquisite fluctuations within regularity. This minute displacement of form and change in composition bring a unique rhythm and visual tension to the canvas.

The gradation of colors, from ochre to a brilliant topaz-like hue, imbues the work with warmth and depth, lending a vibrant, pulsating life to the static image. Through delicate changes in color, a space is created that, despite being two-dimensional, evokes a sense of expansion and contraction, guiding the viewer toward an active visual experience.

This work is a masterful fusion of "the science of vision" and "the poetry of color" that Vasarely pursued. Its formative power, which extracts rich dynamism from a simple circular structure, vividly demonstrates his innovativeness as a pioneer of Op Art.

Among the "Lapidaire" series, this is a highly captivating work, distinguished by its gemstone-like brilliance and refined compositional beauty.
