About the Artwork

"Ezust" is a representative silkscreen print by Victor Vasarely that highly develops the exploration of visual laws using the most fundamental geometric form, the circle.

In this work, the circular structure is divided into nine segments and composed of delicate shades of gray. This precise variation in light and shadow creates an illusion of expansion, undulation, and depth on the flat surface, giving the static image a strong three-dimensional and dynamic impression.

Though composed of extremely simple elements, this work, where space appears to constantly change due to subtle differences in tone, symbolizes Vasarely's pursuit of "the science of vision." Viewers experience new spatial fluctuations with each shift of their gaze, leading to an active dialogue with the artwork.

This work was created as part of the "Lapidaire" album, consisting of eight original silkscreens. It represents a period when Vasarely's geometric abstraction was highly refined, and is a masterpiece where the theory and beauty of Op Art brilliantly coalesce.
