Work Description

《Ezust》 is a representative silkscreen work by Victor Vasarely that highly develops his exploration of visual laws using the most fundamental geometric form: the circle.

In this work, the circular structure is divided into nine segments, composed of delicate gradations of gray. This meticulous variation in shades creates an illusion of expansion, undulation, and depth on the flat surface, imparting a strong three-dimensional and dynamic impression to the static image.

Despite its extremely simple elements, the space in this work appears to constantly change due to subtle differences in tone, symbolizing the "science of vision" that Vasarely pursued. Viewers experience a new fluctuation of space with each shift of their gaze, leading them into an active dialogue with the work.

This work was created as part of the 《Lapidaire》 album, which consists of 8 original silkscreens. It represents a period when Vasarely's geometric abstraction was highly refined, and it is a masterpiece that perfectly crystallizes the theory and beauty of Op Art.
