About the Artwork

"Turkiz positif" is an important work that embodies the exploration of optical illusions and spatial composition pursued by Victor Vasarely in three dimensions.

It is part of a series of works released in 1967 by the prestigious Galerie Denise René in Paris, which organized square relief works as pairs of "positive" and "negative." This work is the "positive" version, creating a unique visual space that blurs the boundaries between two and three dimensions through the repetition and arrangement of geometric forms.

The regularly composed forms evoke a sense of expansion, contraction, and changes in depth depending on the viewer's perspective, giving a dynamic impression despite being a static work. It is an expression that condenses the essence of Op Art pioneered by Vasarely.

The vivid turquoise color gives the work a strong presence and refined rhythm, breathing rich life into the geometric structure. The fact that the optical illusion emerges with a more material reality through the medium of wooden relief is also a major appeal of this work.

This is an extremely highly finished collector's piece that symbolizes the innovative formative ideas of Vasarely, the pioneer of Op Art.
