Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th century France, and there are several museums dedicated to him in France and Japan. He depicted the love between lovers, always surrounded by small animals, trees, and flowers. Peynet's works convey messages of love and peace, and his empathy for small animals and plants leads to environmental protection. In Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a sculpture of Peynet's lovers is displayed as a symbol of world peace. This print was produced in France in 1985 as part of a series. It is, of course, brand new. It is sold out even in France, and only second-hand items are available on the market. Please refer to the following site for information on Peynet museums.

【Artwork Description】
Two dilapidated buildings standing side by side on a hill are depicted. The city of Paris can be seen between the buildings. The nearby houses are small and look poor. In the 19th arrondissement, located in the northwest of the 20th arrondissement of Paris, there is a metro station called Pyrénées. The Pyrénées mountains are a mountain range separating France and Spain. The metro station named Pyrénées, despite being a metro, is located on high ground, and from its vicinity, Paris can be overlooked. The 18th and 19th arrondissements are poor areas. I believe the location of this painting is near the Pyrénées station. Two women on the same floor of separate buildings are leaning out of their windows and conversing. Both have exposed shoulders and their hair is not well-groomed. In both rooms, their lovers are lying naked in bed. There are no streets with prostitutes around Pyrénées. It is summer, so they are probably dressed lightly to keep cool. When Peynet lived in Paris, Parisian buildings did not have air conditioning.
Yasuhiro Takeda, Galerie Adekat
Galerie Adekat purchased 5000 copies around 1992 from Alexandre Tocquard, the nephew of Mr. Muret (who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce Raymond Peynet's prints, which Raymond Peynet then signed by hand) and the representative of Editions des Cercles, the French distributor of the prints.
Yasuhiro Takeda, the owner of Galerie Adekat, graduated from the University of Montpellier in southern France, and Alexandre Tocquard was also from Montpellier and a junior alumnus of the University of Montpellier. Galerie Adekat began to focus on selling Raymond Peynet prints, starting with the friendship with Alexandre Tocquard.

Galerie Adekat managed Gallery Vende France at Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years from 1995 to 2015, establishing a close relationship with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa. To promote exchange between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Art Museum in Antibes, southern France, Galerie Adekat has continued to interact with the Peynet Museum in Antibes and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet, through dispatches from the Karuizawa Peynet Museum.
Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants joyfully coexist, centered around the love of lovers. In the 21st century, marked by environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace serve as a message for our time. We hope that you will be touched by Raymond Peynet's world surrounded by peace, love, and gentle nature, and foster a heart that cherishes peace, love, and our fellow creatures—nature, animals, and plants—on Earth.
