Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th-century France, with several museums dedicated to his work in France and Japan. His works depict the love between couples, always surrounded by small animals, trees, and flowers. Peynet's art conveys messages of love and peace, and his empathy for small animals and plants relates to environmental protection. A sculpture of Peynet's lovers stands in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park as a symbol of world peace. This print was created in France in 1985 as part of a series. It is, of course, brand new. It is sold out even in France, and only used copies occasionally appear on the market. Please see the following website for information on Peynet's museums and more.

[Work Description]
A couple, having just married, faces each other in their bedroom as night falls. The man holds an open book. The title of the book is "Education sentimentale." In Japanese, this translates to "Sentimental Education." This is the title of a novel by the 19th-century French writer Gustave Flaubert. It is a story like a memoir of a country youth's romantic entanglements in the mid-19th century, not particularly focused on puritanical ideals. French people prefer refined elegance over purity. People are refined through various experiences, and elegance may be refined through many loves.
On the bed, small birds, a dog, and even an angel carrying a bouquet of flowers are present to celebrate Peynet's lovers. Outside the window, a densely built area with old dome-shaped roofs can be seen. Everyone wishes to celebrate the couple's new beginning.
Yasuhiro Takeda, Galerie Adekat
In about 1992, Galerie Adekat purchased 5,000 prints from Alexandre Tocart, the nephew of Mr. Mullet (Raymond Peynet's publisher, who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce his prints, which Raymond Peynet then personally signed) and the representative of the French distributor (Éditions du Cercle) of those prints.

Galerie Adekat managed the Galerie Vent de France at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years, from 1995 to 2015. Consequently, they maintained a close relationship with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa. To foster exchange between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Painters Museum in Antibes, southern France, Galerie Adekat was dispatched by the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and has continued to communicate with the Antibes Peynet Museum and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet.
Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants coexist happily, centered around the love of couples. In the 21st century, marked by environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace serve as a message for our time. We hope that by experiencing Raymond Peynet's world, surrounded by peace, love, and gentle nature, you will nurture a heart that values peace, love, and our fellow creatures—nature, animals, and plants—on Earth.
