[Love Cocktail] Explanation video here →

Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in France in the 20th century, and has several museums in France and Japan. He depicts the love between lovers, always surrounded by small animals, trees and flowers. Peynet's works convey messages of love and peace, and empathy with small animals and plants leads to environmental protection. A sculpture of lovers by Peynet is placed in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park as a symbol of world peace. This print was produced in France as part of a series in 1985. It is of course new. It has sold out in France, and only second-hand copies are available on the market. For information on Peynet's museums, please see the following website.

[Work description]

A man opens an outdoor bar in a forest in early summer. A male bartender makes cocktails, and an angel and a little bird deliver the drinks. An attractive female customer wearing a hat made of wildflowers orders a cocktail based on morning dew, with the scent of lily of the valley, the sunlight of May, and your kindness. A squirrel has just finished drinking the cocktail on the counter. An angel waiter is about to fly off to deliver the order to a customer in the forest. An unidentified little bird is tugging on the hem of a female customer's pink dress, but its intention is unclear. Two doves are embracing each other above the bartender's head. A pair of Peinet trees (trees with branches and leaves that frequently appear in Peinet's paintings) are painted on both sides of the painting. On the ground, fragrant lilies of the valley are singing and dancing towards the sky. Feeling the soft breeze of May all over your body, you take a deep breath of the fresh forest air and stretch your arms out towards the sky and the sunlight. From the end of April to the beginning of May, Parisian florists all put lilies of the valley on their shelves, bringing the sunlight of the early summer forests to the streets of Paris.

Around 1992, Galerie Adesaka purchased 5,000 copies from Alexandre Tocart, the nephew of Raymond Peynet's publisher Muret (who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce prints by Raymond Peynet that Raymond Peynet personally signed), and the representative of the French distributor of those prints (Editions des Cercles).

Galerie Adeka ran the Gallery Vingt de France at Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years from 1995 to 2015, and is therefore on friendly terms with the Peynet Museum, also located in Karuizawa. To promote exchanges between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Artists Museum in Antibes, southern France, Galerie Adeka was sent by the Karuizawa Peynet Museum to continue to exchange with the Peynet Museum in Antibes and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet.

Statue of Lovers by Raymond Peynet in front of the Karuizawa Peynet Museum

Raymond Peynet's world of painting depicts a paradise where small animals and plants happily coexist, with the love between lovers at its center. In the 21st century, where environmental destruction and war continue, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace seem to be a message to the modern age. By coming into contact with Raymond Peynet's world surrounded by peace, love and gentle nature, I hope that you will develop peace and love in your heart and a heart that cherishes nature, animals and plants, our fellow members of the earth.
