Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th century France, and there are several museums dedicated to his work in France and Japan. His work depicted the love between lovers, always surrounded by small animals, trees, and flowers, conveying a message of love and peace. His empathy for small animals and plants leads to environmental protection. In Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a sculpture of Peynet's lovers stands as a symbol of world peace. This print was produced in France in 1985 as part of a series. It is, of course, new. It is sold out in France, and only second-hand items appear on the market. Please see the following website for information on Peynet's museums.

【Work Commentary】

In 1942, Peynet was inspired when he saw an outdoor bandstand (kiosk) in the city of Valence, France, and drew his first illustration of "The Lovers." These lovers were then featured in the magazine "Luc et Lac." From then on, Peynet continued to draw "The Lovers." The painting of lovers playing the violin in an outdoor bandstand can be considered the origin of Peynet's art. The woman is knitting for the musician, her beloved, who is playing the violin in the kiosk, and her knitting forms a musical score. A dove helps by holding a ball of yarn. Around the kiosk, trees and their leaves are depicted. The love between the lovers and the harmony with nature, including animals and plants, are portrayed in a peaceful serenity. This painting can be called the origin of Peynet's work.

Galerie Adekat Yasuhiro Takeda

Galerie Adekat purchased 5,000 copies around 1992 from Alexandre Tocquard, nephew of Monsieur Muret, Peynet's publisher (who worked with Raymond Peynet to produce his prints, which Raymond Peynet then signed himself), and representative of the French distributor of those prints (Éditions des Cercles).

Galerie Adekat managed Galerie Vent de France at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years, from 1995 to 2015. Due to this, we had a close relationship with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa and were dispatched by the Karuizawa Peynet Museum to foster exchanges between it and the Raymond Peynet et les Humoristes Museum in Antibes, Southern France. We continue to maintain contact with the Antibes Peynet Museum and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet.

Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants joyfully coexist, centered around the love of lovers. In this 21st century, marked by environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace are considered a message for our time. We hope that by experiencing Raymond Peynet's world of peace, love, and gentle nature, people will foster peace and love in their hearts and cherish nature, animals, and plants as fellow inhabitants of Earth.
