Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th century France, and there are several museums dedicated to his work in France and Japan. His works depict the love between lovers, always surrounded by small animals, trees, and flowers. Peynet's art conveys messages of love and peace, and his empathy for small animals and plants reflects a concern for environmental protection. In Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a sculpture of Peynet's lovers is placed as a symbol of world peace. This original etching print was produced in France as part of a series in 1978. It is, of course, brand new. It is sold out even in France, and only used items appear on the market. For information on Peynet museums, please see the following websites.

【Work Description】

In Greek mythology, Leo is said to be the man-eating lion slain by the hero Hercules. People born under the sign of Leo are said to be as strong and glamorous as a lion, proud, and perform well when they are the center of attention. They are also said to be reliable with a strong sense of justice, but can become self-centered when their pride is wounded.

The entire surface depicts the face of a lion and its mane. The intense presence of the kingly lion is overwhelmingly expressed. Below the face of this kingly lion, the world is depicted. Several islands, covered with medieval buildings, are symbolically portrayed, and medieval sailing ships are also depicted, suggesting a sea setting. However, the islands are shrouded in clouds, making it seem like a sky city. The sailing ships might even be airships. Above the clouds or on a cloud-like island near the bottom of the lion's mane, lovers are embracing, sharing a passionate hug. They must feel immensely encouraged under the watchful eye of the king.

Yasuhiro Takeda, Galerie Adekat

Galerie Adekat purchased 5,000 prints around 1992 from Mr. Alexandre Tocquard, nephew of Mr. Mullet (who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce Raymond Peynet's prints, which Raymond Peynet then signed by hand) and representative of the French distributor (Éditions des Cercles) of those prints.

Galerie Adekat managed Gallery Vent de France at Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years, from 1995 to 2015. Due to this, they maintained close ties with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa. To foster exchange between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Art Museum in Antibes, Southern France, Galerie Adekat has been dispatched by the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and continues to interact with the Antibes Peynet Museum and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet.

Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants joyfully coexist, centered around the love of lovers. In the 21st century, with its environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's art of love and peace is seen as a message for our time. By experiencing Raymond Peynet's world of peace, love, and gentle nature, we hope that people will foster feelings of peace and love in their hearts, and cherish nature, animals, and plants as fellow inhabitants of Earth.
