Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th-century France, with several museums in France and Japan. He depicted the love between lovers, always surrounded by small animals, trees, and flowers. Peynet's works convey a message of love and peace, and his empathy for small animals and plants leads to environmental protection. In Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a sculpture of Peynet's lovers stands as a symbol of world peace. This original etching was produced as a series in France in 1978. It is, of course, new. It is sold out in France, and only used items appear on the market. Please refer to the following site for information on Peynet's museums.

【Work Explanation】
In Greek mythology, it is said that the crab monster crushed by the hero Hercules became the constellation Cancer. People born under Cancer are full of love and cherish their family and friends, so they hide their rich emotions and are considerate of those around them. On the other hand, they tend to react coolly to people they don't get along with.
A giant crab with a heart-shaped shell fills the screen. Inside the heart-shaped shell, a mountain of buildings with spires and domed roofs, symbolizing the medieval world, is depicted. Below it, in the sea, old sailing ships, islands, and smoking volcanic islands are drawn. In the sky, balloons and clouds drift comfortably. If you look closely, the outer shell surrounding this world is a green field with countless plants growing. Lovers stand on the crab's legs, and the man proposes to the woman with a love flower from which hearts hang. Flowers and leaves adorn the crab's legs like garlands. The moon is depicted in the upper right of the screen, and the sun in the upper left, watching over the world and the lovers.
Galerie Adekat, Yasuhiro Takeda
[Galerie Adekat] purchased 5,000 copies around 1992 from Mr. Alexandre Tocart, nephew of Mr. Mullet (who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce Raymond Peynet's prints, which Raymond Peynet signed himself) and representative of the French distributor of the prints (Editions des Cercles).

Galerie Adekat managed Gallery Vent de France at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years from 1995 to 2015, and thus had a close relationship with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa. To foster exchange between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Art Museum in Antibes, southern France, Galerie Adekat sent representatives from the Karuizawa Peynet Museum to maintain ongoing exchanges with the Antibes Peynet Museum and Raymond Peynet's daughter, Annie Peynet.
Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants coexist happily, centered on the love of lovers. In the 21st century, with its environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace seem to be a message to our times. We hope that by experiencing Raymond Peynet's world of peace, love, and gentle nature, people will cultivate peace and love in their hearts and a respect for nature, animals, and plants as fellow inhabitants of Earth.
