Raymond Peynet was the most popular illustrator in 20th century France, with several museums in France and Japan. He depicted the love between lovers, and around them he always drew small animals, trees, and flowers. Peynet's works convey messages of love and peace, and his empathy for small animals and plants leads to environmental protection. In Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a sculpture of Peynet's lovers is placed as a symbol of world peace. This original etching print was produced in France as a series in 1978. Of course, it is new. It is sold out in France, and only second-hand items are available in the market. Please refer to the following website for information on Peynet's museums, etc.

【Work Description】
In Greek mythology, it is said that Zeus, the Greek god, turned Castor and Pollux, his close children, into the constellation Gemini so that they could always be together. People born under the sign of Gemini are said to have excellent communication skills, curiosity, expressiveness, and a strong drive. They have diverse expressive abilities, such as in art and interesting expressions, but they also tend to get bored easily and be restless.
There is a woman in the plaza between a pair of slender, small two-story houses, and the twin men on both sides are offering her their hearts and courting her. Both houses appear small and poor. A towel is hanging on a clothesline strung between the two houses, and a cat is balancing on the line with an umbrella, while a small bird watches. A dome roof and spires can be seen between the houses. This may be in an old city. The moon is out in the sky, casting a soft light. This might be just the right brightness for this simple courtship scene of the twins.
Kazuhiro Takeda, Galerie Adekat
Around 1992, Galerie Adekat purchased 5,000 copies from Alexandre Tocquard, the nephew of Raymond Peynet's publisher Mr. Muret (who collaborated with Raymond Peynet to produce Raymond Peynet's prints, which Raymond Peynet signed himself) and the representative of the French distributor of those prints (Editions du Cercle).

Galerie Adekat operated Galerie Vente France at Karuizawa Prince Hotel for 20 years from 1995 to 2015, and therefore had a close relationship with the Peynet Museum in Karuizawa. For the exchange between the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and the Raymond Peynet and Humorous Painters Museum in Antibes, southern France, it was dispatched by the Karuizawa Peynet Museum and continues to interact with the Peynet Museum in Antibes and Raymond Peynet's daughter Annie Peynet.
Raymond Peynet's artistic world depicts a paradise where small animals and plants coexist happily, centered on the love of lovers. In the 21st century, with its environmental destruction and ongoing wars, Raymond Peynet's paintings of love and peace are considered a message to the present day. We hope that by experiencing Raymond Peynet's world surrounded by peace, love, and gentle nature, you will cultivate a heart that values peace, love, and our fellow creatures on Earth: nature, animals, and plants.
