Description
In this work, **Niki de Saint Phalle** depicts a complex and introspective dream world filled with symbolic imagery. Motifs such as the bird in a cage, the Christian cross, and the dragon each symbolize her own past and memories.
The dreaming child seems trapped in everyday life, as if trying to escape through imagination and dreams. Or perhaps it is a fantasy of the future.
The Mediterranean atmosphere depicted in the work evokes the Côte d'Azur, hinting at a significant event in her life: her hospitalization in Nice. The cross also symbolizes the suffering she experienced during adolescence and her conflict with the Catholic faith.
The dragon, which dominates the entire composition, is depicted as a guardian of secrets and internal conflicts.
Like other works in the "Nanas Power" series, this work also has strong autobiographical elements. Niki de Saint Phalle confronts her inner self through symbolic imagery, expressing her memories and suffering, and demonstrating a strong will to free herself from the constraints of the past.
