Artwork Description
In her "Nanas Power" series, **Niki de Saint Phalle** created works of strong catharsis, combining artistic impulse with personal introspection.
This silkscreen depicts a multi-headed paternal figure. Two faces are present: one, orderly and outward-facing, presented to society; the other, distorted and almost monstrously disfigured, revealing a hidden, darker truth.
This iconographic duality represents the tension between appearance and reality, a significant theme that recurs throughout the artist's work.
Beneath this figure, an ornate church structure rises. Its theatrical composition evokes the altar-like works the artist created in her "Shooting" series. This motif also hints at her childhood spiritual background, having received a Catholic education.
Composed with rich colors and expressive lines, this work tells an intimate yet universal story, intertwining personal memory with a critique of authoritative structures.
