Born in the Czech Republic, he was a leading Art Nouveau painter who was active mainly in France. He produced many posters, calendars, illustrations, original prints, paintings, and murals with the motif of women surrounded by stars, jewels, and plants, with delicate and elegant curves. He became a popular artist in 19th century Paris by producing commercial posters.

  

Born in 1860 in Moravia, Austrian Empire (now the Czech Republic)

1975 : Became a town hall clerk

1879 : Studied at the Vienna Night School of Drawing

1885 Studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts

1885 Studied at the Academie Julian in Paris

1889 : Draws illustrations of actress Sarah Bernhardt for a Parisian magazine (stage costumes)

In 1893 , he shared a studio with Gauguin, who had returned from Tahiti.

In 1895 , his poster for a stage performance featuring the great actress Sarah Bernhardt became a huge success and he became famous as an Art Nouveau artist.

1897 : Held his first solo exhibition. Created a decorative panel (Four Flowers).

Later, he gained popularity through his commercial posters for Moet & Chandon champagne, perfume, and more.

1910 : Returned to his homeland and began working on the Inter-Slavic Epic

In 1939 , he was arrested by the Nazis, but was released, but passed away within a few months.
