A prominent painter of the School of Paris from Barcelona. While participating in the Surrealist movement in Paris and being heavily influenced by Surrealism, he created his own unique object forms, diverging from elongated forms, to establish Miro's unique world of abstract painting filled with musicality. He expanded his activities to include not only paintings and prints but also ceramics, sculptures, and outdoor mural sculptures, achieving global success.

1893 Born in Barcelona, Spain, to a jeweler and watchmaker.

1907 Enters La Llotja School of Art and Design in Barcelona.

1912 Enters Francesc Galí Art School.

1915 Begins to paint his own portraits and landscapes, while being influenced by the Fauves in France.

1918 Holds a solo exhibition at the Dalmau Gallery.

1919 Goes to Paris and interacts with Picasso. For the next 20 years, he enjoys barbecue and Paris.

1920 Participates in the Dada movement.

1923 Begins to paint symbolic images, moving away from realism.

1924 Joins the Surrealist movement with André Breton and others.

1926 Responsible for set design for the Russian Ballet's Romeo and Juliet.

1930 Solo exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, and New York. Creates his first lithographs.

1931 Exhibition of objects and sculptures at a Paris gallery.

1933 Creates his first etchings.

1936 Exiled to France.

1940 Creates the "Constellations" series, establishing his unique visual language.

Moves to Mallorca, Spain.

1941 Retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

1946 Exhibits with Dalí, Picasso, and Gris in the "Four Spaniards" exhibition in Boston.

1947 First visit to New York, creation of a large mural

From this time on, as an internationally renowned artist, his reputation and evaluation grew, retrospectives and exhibitions were held, and museums around the world competed to acquire his works.

1967 Miró mural installed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York

1973 Solo exhibition of sculptures and ceramics held at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. "Miró Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York" exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

1975 The Joan Miró Foundation - Centre for the Study of Contemporary Art, designed by Jose Luis Sert, opens in Montjuïc Park, Barcelona.

1979 Retrospective exhibition of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and watercolors held at the Maeght Foundation.

1983 "Joan Miró:Anys20" exhibition of paintings from the 1920s held at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona. Continued at his home in Palma de Mallorca.

The Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona houses over 10,000 works, and works are collected by museums around the world, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
