A representative painter from the Ecole de Paris, born in Barcelona. He participated in the Surrealist movement in Paris and was heavily influenced by it, but instead of the long and thin shapes, he created his own object shapes and created his own unique world of abstract paintings that are fun to listen to. He expanded his activities from painting and prints to ceramics, sculpture, outdoor sculpture and murals, and achieved success all over the world.
Born in 1893 in the Spanish Transverse Sea as the son of a jewellery and watchmaker.
1907 Entered the La Llonha School of Fine Arts in Barcelona
1912 : Entered Francisco Galli Art School
1915 : Although influenced by the French Fauves, he began to paint his own original portraits and landscapes.
1918 Solo exhibition at the Dalmau Gallery
In 1919 , he interacted with Picasso when he went to Paris. For the next 20 years, he enjoyed barbecues and Paris.
1920 : Joins the Dadaism movement
1923 : Moved away from realism and began to paint symbolic pictures
In 1924 , he joined the Surrealist movement along with André Breton and others.
1926 : Set decoration for the Russian Ballet's Romeo and Juliet
1930 Solo exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, and New York. Produced his first lithograph.
1931 : Exhibition of sculptures and objects at a gallery in Paris
1933 : First etching machine installed
1936 : Exile in France
1940 : Creates his signature Constellation series. Miró's unique geometrical expression is established.
Moving to Mallorca, Spain
1941 : Retrospective held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York
In 1946 , he exhibited at the Four Spaniards exhibition in Boston alongside Dali, Picasso, and Gris.
1947 : Visited New York for the first time and created a large mural
From this time on, he gained worldwide recognition as a world-renowned watercolour painter, and retrospectives and exhibitions were held, with art museums around the world competing to house his works.
1949 Retrospective at the Kunsthalle Bern
1950 : Solo exhibition of objects and prints held at Galerie Maeght in Paris
1951 Solo exhibitions in New York and Houston
1953 Solo exhibitions at the Galerie Maeght in Paris and the Galerie Matisse in New York
1954 : A retrospective was held at the Kaiser Wellerfeld Museum in Germany.
1960 : Created a ceramic mural at Harvard University
1962 : A major retrospective was held at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
1966 : Came to Japan for a major retrospective exhibition in Tokyo and Kyoto
1967 : Miro's murals are installed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York
In 1973 , he held a solo exhibition of sculptures and ceramics at the Saint-Paul de Vinsmaegh Foundation. The exhibition "The Joan Miró Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York" was held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
1975 The Joan Miró Foundation - Centre for Contemporary Art Research, designed by José Luis Sert, opens in Barcelona's Bois de Montjuic Park.
In 1979 , a retrospective of paintings, sculpture, drawings and watercolors was held at the Maeght Foundation.
1983 : The exhibition Joan Miró : Anys20 , paintings from the 1920s, opens at the Fundacio Miró in Barcelona . It continues at his home in Palma de Mallorca.
The Joan Miró Museum in Barcelona has a collection of over 10,000 works, and works are included in museums around the world, including the Pompidou Center in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
