A prominent painter of the École de Paris from Barcelona. He participated in the Surrealist movement in Paris, and although he was strongly influenced by Surrealism, he created his own unique object forms rather than elongated ones, forming Miro's unique world of abstract painting, full of musical joy. He expanded his activities to include not only paintings and prints but also ceramics, sculptures, and outdoor mural sculptures, achieving worldwide success.

1893 Born in Spain as the son of a jeweler and watchmaker.

1907 Entered La Llotja School of Art and Design in Barcelona.

1912 Entered Francisco Galí School of Art.

1915 Began painting unique portraits and landscapes while being influenced by French Fauvism.

1918 Held a solo exhibition at the Dalmau Gallery.

1919 Traveled to Paris and interacted with Picasso. Enjoyed barbecue and Paris for the next 20 years.

1920 Participated in the Dada movement.

1923 Began to move away from realism and paint symbolic pictures.

1924 Participated in the Surrealist movement with André Breton and others.

1926 Designed the stage set for the Russian Ballet's Romeo and Juliet.

1930 Solo exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, and New York. Produced his first lithograph.

1931 Exhibited objects and sculptures at a Paris gallery.

1933 Created his first etching.

1936 Exiled to France.

1940 Produced his masterpiece Constellations series, establishing Miro's unique expression of figures.

Moved to Mallorca, Spain.

1941 Museum of Modern Art, New York, held a retrospective.

1946 Exhibited alongside Dali, Picasso, and Gris in "Four Spaniards" exhibition held in Boston.

1947 First visit to New York, created a large mural.

Around this time, he became a globally renowned artist, gaining worldwide recognition and critical acclaim. Retrospective exhibitions and showcases were held, and museums around the world competed to acquire his works.

1949 Retrospective exhibition at Bern Kunsthalle.

1950 Solo exhibition of objects and prints at Maeght Gallery in Paris.

1951 Solo exhibitions in New York and Houston.

1953 Maeght Gallery in Paris and Matisse Gallery in New York hold solo exhibitions

1954 Retrospective exhibition held at Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Germany

1960 Ceramic mural created at Harvard University

1962 Major retrospective exhibition held at the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris

1967 Miró mural installed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York

1973 Solo exhibition of sculptures and ceramics held at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The "Miró Collection at the Museum of Modern Art" exhibition is held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

1975 The Fundació Joan Miró - Centre for the Study of Contemporary Art, designed by Jose Luis Sert, opens in Montjuïc Park, Barcelona.

1979 Retrospective exhibition of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and watercolors held at the Maeght Foundation.

1983 "Joan Miró:Anys20" exhibition of paintings from the 1920s held at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona. Continued at his home in Palma de Mallorca.

The Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona houses over 10,000 works, and his works are also held in museums worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
