A representative painter of the School of Paris, born in Barcelona. He participated in the Surrealist movement in Paris, and while strongly influenced by Surrealism, he created his own unique object forms, rather than elongated, continuous ones, and developed Miró's unique abstract art world, which is joyful and musical. He expanded his activities to include not only paintings and prints, but also ceramics, sculptures, and outdoor mural sculptures, achieving worldwide success.

1912 Enrolled in Francesc Galí Art Academy

1915 Began painting unique portraits and landscapes while influenced by French Fauvism

1918 Held a solo exhibition at Dalmau Gallery

1919 Went to Paris and interacted with Picasso, enjoying barbecues and Paris for the next 20 years.

1920 Participated in the Dada movement

1923 Began painting symbolic images, moving away from realism

1924 Participated in the Surrealist movement with André Breton and others

1926 Designed the stage for Romeo and Juliet for the Russian Ballet

1930 Solo exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, and New York. Produced his first lithographs.

1931 Exhibition of objects and sculptures at a Paris gallery

1933 Repeated his first etchings

1936 Fled to France

1940 Created the representative Constellation series, establishing Miró's unique figurative expression.

Moved to Majorca, Spain.

1941 New York Museum of Modern Art held a retrospective

1946 Exhibited in Boston at the "Four Spaniards" exhibition alongside Dalí, Picasso, and Gris.

1947 First visit to New York, created large mural.

Around this time, his reputation as a world-renowned painter grew, retrospectives and exhibitions were held, and museums around the world eagerly collected his works.

1949 Retrospective at Kunsthalle Bern

1950 Solo exhibition of objects and prints at Maeght Gallery in Paris.

1951 Solo exhibitions in New York and Houston

1953 Solo exhibitions at Maeght Gallery in Paris and Matisse Gallery in New York

1954 Retrospective at Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Germany

1960 Created a ceramic mural at Harvard University

1962 Large retrospective held at the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris

1966 Visited Japan for a large retrospective in Tokyo and Kyoto

1967 Miró mural installed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York

1973 Solo exhibition of sculptures and ceramics held at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. "Miró Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York" exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

1975 The Joan Miró Foundation - Centre for Study of Contemporary Art, designed by Jose Luis Sert, opens in Montjuïc Park, Barcelona.

1979 Retrospective exhibition of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and watercolors at the Maeght Foundation.

1983 "Joan Miró: Anys20" exhibition of paintings from the 1920s held at the Miró Foundation in Barcelona. Continued at his home in Palma de Mallorca.

The Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona houses over 10,000 works, and his works are also collected by museums worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
