He painted bright and elegant pictures with simplified planar colors, planes, and lines. He was a very French painter who aimed not for expressive art, but for a calming interior. Born in northern France in 1869. In 1991, he studied at the Académie Julian, a Parisian art school. Initially, because he painted with bold colors, he was called a Fauvist painter along with Vlaminck and Derain. Afterwards, a tendency towards geometric patterns and the abstraction of objects emerged, and lines and planar colors became simplified. Paintings, prints, cutouts, stained glass, church interiors. Died in Nice in 1954. His works are housed in famous museums around the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
