A representative painter of post-World War II France. His melancholic landscapes and figures resonated with the post-war atmosphere, making him a popular artist even during his student days. Alongside his contemporaries Michel-Henry, Brazillier, Cathelin, Jansem, and Cassignoul, he established his unique style with a hard, slightly outlined, and simplified form, using monochromatic colors, contending with the masters of the French art world.
