Manuel Rubalo paints landscapes of Brittany, Provence, Venice, and Paris. His landscapes waver between reality and illusion. When depicting Venice or Paris, the illusion draws closer to bygone eras, such as the Middle Ages, rather than the present. One is seized by a strange sensation, as if the Middle Ages have suddenly intruded into modern space. His imaginative power and technique, which harmoniously juxtapose conflicting elements on the same canvas, are supported by extraordinary talent.

This work depicts a coastal landscape of the Brittany Peninsula, which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean in western France. In the foreground, a body of water resembling a canal or river is depicted. It's a slightly lonely seaside landscape, but the pure yellow adds vibrancy and immediately catches the eye.
