Yayoi Kusama Dog Hi Konnichiwa Sculpture Watercolour & Effervescent

Over many years, Yayoi Kusama has explored themes of "infinity," "proliferation of life," and "unity with the universe" using polka dots and net patterns. In this work as well, the dog's entire body is covered in her symbolic dots.

The vibrant pink polka dots scattered across the yellow body exude vitality and joy. Meanwhile, the intricate net-like patterns drawn inside the mouth and on the ears evoke the "Infinity Nets" that Kusama has been creating since the 1950s. The combination of different patterns creates a fantastical presence that transcends a mere animal sculpture.

The familiar motif of a dog symbolizes friendship, loyalty, and intimate relationships for humans. However, Kusama does not reproduce its natural form; instead, she deconstructs its individuality with polka dots, transforming it into a cosmic life form. Viewers feel a sense of familiarity while simultaneously experiencing a unique sensation where the boundaries between reality and fantasy become blurred.

Furthermore, the clear colors and endearing form of this work are one of the reasons for the international popularity of Kusama's art. While it can be intuitively enjoyed by people of all ages without foregrounding complex theories, it also contains deep philosophical concepts such as "self-obliteration" and "infinity."

This three-dimensional work, filled with Yayoi Kusama's unique worldview, features a vibrant yellow body covered in countless pink polka dots. The familiar form of a dog symbolizes the joy of life and affection, while the repeating dots elevate it to a universal existence that transcends individual boundaries. It is a captivating work that expresses Kusama's pursuit of "infinity" and "self-obliteration" through humorous and joyful forms.

This dog sculpture is adorned with Yayoi Kusama's signature polka dot pattern. Within its vibrant colors and adorable form, the core of Kusama's art—the proliferation of life and the infinity of the universe—is expressed.
